Pitusamama's Mallorca Recomendations
Places to visit, places to swim and places to eat.
First up is Palma, you can not visit Mallorca without visiting the capital. The Cathedral is worth a visit and the the Miro museum, Foundacio Joan Miro. I also love this multi-concept store called Rialto living they have everything from a cute cafe, to home decor to clothing. For coffee there is the fantastic La molienda, and for gourmet Spanish treats you have El Palador.
Valldemosa and Deia are worth visiting in the same day. "La residencia" a Belmond Hotel in Valldemossa is a great place to stop and have lunch or dinner but make sure to make a reservation. Sóller is a quaint little town in a valley and worth visiting as the port of Sóller. A beautiful activity in Mallorca, is to go to the Drach Caves for a classical concert.
For Calas I love Caló des Moro but it is a difficult trek down a mountain (which I did at 5 months pregnant do not advise that you try this pregnant). Cala Deià, which has a delicious restaurant called Ca's Patró March (recommend going in a small car extremely difficult to get to but the view and food make it worthwhile). Cala Agulla is also beautiful. A great way to visit the calas and avoid the stress of getting there and finding parking is to go by boat.
Great Beaches are Playa De Muro, very family friendly nice shallow water and Plajta Formentor. The latter is very difficult to get to as they close the road in summer so you either have to book a night at the Four Seasons which has just opened or try to access it by boat.
We normally eat at home but some top restaurants are El Olivo, Brut, Flanigan's, and Farm to table Mallorca. If your in Palma you must try an ensaimada which is a pastry specialty of the island and Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo is famous for it's enseimadas and is a historic spot having been in business since the 1700s. There is also a beautiful restaurant in a cute boutique hotel called Barretes in the Ca's Xorc Hotel.
For shopping every town has a local fresh market one day of the week. My favorites are the Sineu market on Wednesdays and the market of Santanyi on Saturdays. I also love going to visit the miro glass factories where you can see them making the glass and can purchase wonderful gifts and souvenirs, Lafiore Artistic Glass and Gordiola.
