Top Honeymoon Destinations
When Clara, our founder, and CEO got married last year, we knew that she would have a fab destination in mind for her honeymoon. She did start a company with a penchant for unique locales all over the world. We pride ourselves on the fact that Pitusa has been worn on many a honeymoon. Honeymoons are often timed when you’re experiencing a bit of a comedown after all the planning and excitement that comes with getting married, and all you want to do is throw on the Inca Sundress.
Clara honeymooned in Italy: hers was all about PASTA! The newlyweds took pasta-making lessons and basically ate their way through Italy. As Clara put it they had “pasta every day, sometimes even twice a day.” After a long year of personal training to get in shape, Clara definitely deserved it. For Clara and her husband, it was all about food and unwinding in sleepy Italian towns (all the while wearing only Pitusa pieces, of course).
But everyone is different! Which is why we’ve rounded up some of our fave honeymoon destinations for any taste. Whether your thing is eating in the best restaurants in the world, traipsing around a city learning about the history or achieving that stranded on a desert island feel – there is something for everyone. We like the idea of waiting a bit to go on your honeymoon – once you’ve recovered from the wedding itself. It’s also something fun to look forward to and an opportunity to reconnect with one another within the first year of marriage.
PUGLIA, ITALY
This is a good one for foodies. A top destination for Italians in the summer months – it has the best that Italy has to offer in terms of fresh produce and delish pasta. Pair that with quiet beaches and romantic cottages for a quiet kind of honeymoon. Puglia is the spot for you if you want to rent a quiet AirBnB and lock yourselves up for the week, leaving only for pasta and wine excursions.
MARRAKECH, MOROCCO
Marrakech is a magical honeymoon destination – especially if you’re decorating a new home, Stay at the L’Hotel Marrakech, a stunning riad owned by design genius Jasper Conran. You’ll have the best of both worlds: the riad is removed enough so you can marvel at the view of the Atlas mountains, eat a meal on the sunbeds in the beautiful gardens but also venture out to the souk and shop for the perfect rug. There are so many exquisite riads in Marrakech that you don’t have to choose this one – do a bit of research to find something perfectly suited to your taste and sensibility. The great thing about choosing Marrakech is that there are lots of little trips you can do out of the city for a bit of adventure.
COMPORTA, PORTUGAL
Comporta is the new it-place for laidback luxury. It’s an hour south of Lisbon so technically you could mix it up; do a few days in the city and a few days lounging on white beaches. It’s a favorite destination for Christian Louboutin and Philippe Starck, who both have houses there. Dubbed by many as “the Hamptons” of Lisbon – a sleepy seaside destination with a taste for high-end champagne. It only has one hotel and a host of AirBnBs, but the Sublime strikes all the right notes for a quiet honeymoon with a touch of glam.
BALI, INDONESIA
Bali is a big favorite of ours at Pitusa. There is something so full of magic about that little Island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. You just never know what kind of adventure you might get into. Since it’s essentially the holiday island, you can stay in all sorts of accommodation – from a 5-star hotel like The Amankila or a little boutique hotel or villas in Canggu. There is also some of the best cuisine (a mix of delicious East meets West sensibility and some of the best coffee around (thanks to its proximity to Australia – a country known for its caffeine obsession).
BIG SUR, CALIFORNIA
Although it’s now more popular than ever thanks to the HBO show Big Little Lies, Big Sur has been a quiet destination for those in the know for decades. Both camping aficionados and those wanting a bit more luxury will love it. There are campgrounds that stretch up the coast and incredible hotels like the Post Ranch Inn to stay in, replete with soaring views and a unique spa experience.
